OVERVIEW
OVERVIEW
'Train to Tralee' employs 1-bit visuals to accompany a poem about a night train ride. It is a cinquain, a poetic form created by Adelaide Crapsey. Its five concise lines describe the quiet pulse of travel at night, where the world outside dissolves into darkness.
This is a short-form interactive poem, lasting around 15 seconds. It can also be defined as a game poem, a term created by Jordan Magnuson.
DESIGN
'Train to Tralee' adopts Bitsy's trademark visual style, rendered in monochrome blue to evoke the stillness and solitude of night travel. The player stands beside a train under a crescent moon, surrounded by faint stars and quiet emptiness. The sparse composition, with its single flicker of light from the train’s window, heightens the sense of isolation and reflection. There is no music; only a gentle night wind that drifts through the silence, grounding the experience in a hushed, introspective atmosphere. The result is a contemplative digital vignette.
ROLES
'Train to Tralee' was created as a solo project, with all development roles handled by me:
Game Creator & Designer: Designed the concept and narrative flow.
Art Director & Illustrator: Illustrated all in-game assets in Bitsy. You can read more about the illustrations here.
Programmer: the game's short, simple code was created in Bitsy.
Writer: Wrote the short poem.
Game Tester: Personally tested the game to ensure clarity, pacing, and consistency in tone and visuals.
