After learning about the Better Images of AI project, I became aware of the stereotypical, unhelpful, misleading and even harmful images commonly used to represent Artificial Intelligence (AI). Inspired by their work, I’ve created a complete pack of 8 icons representing AI and its diverse uses across different areas: home, agriculture, face recognition, healthcare, retail, urban navigation, e-commerce, and education. These images showcase grounded, real everyday uses of AI. Based on the Better Images of AI Guide for Users and Creators, I aimed to avoid tropes like futurism and sci-fi – such as humanoid robots and descending code –, as well as magic sparkles, the human brain, men in suits and an overuse of blue.

AI PLANT SENSOR
This icon shows a planter with an AI-powered sensor, measuring hydration, sunlight and overall plant health. This is an example of an already-existing technology that can be used in a smart household.
AI-POWERED DRONE IN AGRICULTURE
This icon shows a drone flying over crops and scanning them to provide data-driven information in agriculture.
AI AND FACE RECOGNITION
This icon includes an image of a human face with clear geometric shapes representing facial recognition patterns.
AI AND HEALTHCARE
This icon shows medical data being visualised in a computer interface, with AI being used to aid health professionals in taking data-driven decisions.
AI IN RETAIL
A shopping cart with graphs, showing how AI can be used to analyse spending patterns, item prices and compare prices in different stores.
AI AND URBAN NAVIGATION
A city map with AI-driven route optimisation.
AI IN ONLINE SHOPPING
An online store is displayed in a computer monitor, with AI being used for a recommendation system, showing items the customer may be interested into.
AI CHATBOTS AND EDUCATION
A student using a tablet, interacting with a chatbot as a personalised tutor. The simple representation of their conversation through a chat-like interface highlights a simple, straightforward use of AI in learning.
